Escape to the green south on the Astore & Rama Lake Tour in the Astore Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Astore is the southern gateway to Deosai and to Nanga Parbat’s quieter side, and above the valley town lies Rama, a pine-forested meadow with a small jewel of a lake reflecting the great mountain.
Tour highlights: Rama Lake and its pine-fringed shore, the Rama meadows, Astore Valley with its river and villages, views towards Nanga Parbat, and the scenic drive in from the Karakoram Highway at Jaglot.
Day-wise itinerary:
Day 1: Drive from Gilgit via Jaglot into the Astore Valley to Astore town, then continue up to Rama. Walk the meadows and pine forest to Rama Lake for sunset. Dinner and overnight in Rama (or Astore town).
Day 2: Morning walk around Rama Lake and the meadows, with Nanga Parbat views on clear days. Drive back down through the Astore Valley and return to Gilgit by evening.
