Skardu

Skardu is the launch point for expeditions to K2, Gasherbrum and Broad Peak, and the base for exploring Shigar Valley, Khaplu, Deosai National Park and a string of turquoise lakes including Shangrila (Lower Kachura), Upper Kachura and Satpara. It combines rugged cold-desert scenery with some of Gilgit-Baltistan's most characterful heritage hotels, including two restored royal forts you can actually spend the night in.

Most travellers reach Skardu by direct flight from Islamabad — roughly 1 hour 15 minutes and one of the most scenic commercial flights in the world on a clear day — or via a full-day drive along the Karakoram Highway from Hunza. From the city, Deosai Plateau, Shigar Fort and Khaplu Palace are all reachable as half- or full-day 4x4 trips, making Skardu the natural base for travellers prioritising Baltistan's forts, lakes and high-altitude wilderness.

Every spring, the valleys of Hunza and Nagar turn into a sea of pink and white as thousands of apricot trees come into blossom. Fairy Meadows Complete Guide

Fairy Meadows is the legendary green meadow beneath the north face of Nanga Parbat (8,126 metres), in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan. German climbers named it Märchenwiese — the fairy tale meadow — and one look at its pine forests, flower-filled grass and the great white wall of the ‘Killer Mountain’ explains why. This guide […]

Deosai National Park, often called the “Land of the Giants”, is one of the highest plateaus in the world, with an average elevation of about 4,114 metres above sea level.
